SPATIAL ANALYSIS OF WATER SUPPLY IN RURAL AREAS OF SIAHA DISTRICT, MIZORAM

Title: SPATIAL ANALYSIS OF WATER SUPPLY IN RURAL AREAS OF SIAHA DISTRICT, MIZORAM
Authors: Zothansanga, David
Abstract: Sources of water supply in rural areas of Siaha District can be
broadly classified into four categories, namely; public piped
water points, village spring sources, drilled water points and
rain water harvesting. Among the water sources as mentioned
above; public piped water points and village spring sources
constitute major sources of water supply in rural areas.
The other two sources such as drilled water points and rain
harvesting are less significant because firstly, rain water
harvesting is done only during rainy seasons and secondly,
drilled water point can be set up only in those rural areas
which are either connected by national or state highway.

Title: A Study on the Progress, Challenges, and Impacts on Sanitation and Waste Management in Mizoram, India
Authors: Zothansanga, David
Abstract: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the Swachh Bharat Mission (Clean India Mission) on October
2, 2014, with the aim of advancing sanitation and achieving universal sanitation coverage. The objective of
the Swachh Bharat Mission was to achieve nationwide sanitation and the establishment of communities
that are free from open defecation and maintain cleanliness. This research study investigates the progress,
obstacles, and impacts of the Swachh Bharat Mission on sanitation and waste management. The paper
analyses pertinent concepts, methodologies, empirical evidence, and arguments regarding mission
development, municipal waste management, and urban population expansion during the last decade. This
research article aims to elucidate the Swachh Bharat Mission and its influence on sanitation and waste
management in India.

Title: Environmental Hazards and Management with Reference to Human-induced Disaster and its Impacts: A Case Study of Stone Quarry at Aizawl South, India
Authors: Zothansanga, David
Abstract: The term “landslide” refers to a wide variety of motions of earth elements that occur downslope and cause
soil, rock, and plant life to move perceptibly downward and outward as a result of the force of gravity. The
magnitude and frequency of landslides in mountainous terrains can vary greatly, and each one can cause
significant harm to both human life and property. Also, the interruption of the communication network is
caused when there are frequent blockages. In addition, the region’s geological environment has been
negatively impacted, and it is in a state of permanent danger due to the fact that its many components are
continuously deteriorating. An estimated eighty percent of all landslides that occur in other parts of the
world are caused by human activity. This study is a case study that looks at the geological features that
make the soil more likely to slide, as well as the effects of those features and what can be done to stop or
lessen them. The study was done in relation to the slope instability of the South Hlimen landslide.

LOCAL BODIES AND EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN: A STUDY OF WOMEN LOCAL COUNCIL MEMBERS IN AIZAWL, MIZORAM

Title: LOCAL BODIES AND EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN: A STUDY OF WOMEN LOCAL COUNCIL MEMBERS IN AIZAWL, MIZORAM
Authors: Zothansanga, David
Abstract: The implementation of gender-sensitive policies that promote the empowerment andparticipation of women in the governing process is a crucial requirement for attainingsustainable development in a country like India. This issue has been acknowledged withinthe framework of policy reforms in both the governmental and local government sectors. Itis imperative to focus on the status of women's involvement at this level to enable theirempowerment, as sustainable and participatory development cannot be guaranteed withouttheir participation and empowerment. The 73rd and 74th constitutional provisions of theIndian Constitution are regarded as a significant achievement in promoting gender equalityand enhancing women's participation in the political power structure which in turn, contributesto the strengthening of local governance and the sustainable development of the country. This paper looks into the working and participation of women in the Local Councils inAizawl under the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC).Factors influencing women'sparticipation in local government were examined. Key factors include experience, familyleadership history, and facing no obstacles. All participants felt involved in decision-making,some lacked experience, faced obstacles, or lacked connections - highlighting potentialbarriers. The findings have practical implications which were further discussed. While somelimitations exist, the study supports the importance of women in local government. Theirdiverse perspectives contribute to more responsive policies and ultimately, sustainabledevelopment and strong governance.
