Title: LANDSLIDE AND ASSOCIATE ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS
Authors: Deka, Ghanashyam
Abstract: About 80% of all the landslides in different parts of the world are the result of anthropogenic
factor. Even the state Mizoram also falls under the category of very high risk zone in response
to landslides. This phenomenon is a major environmental issue as a result of which it is
essential to study the causes, impact, the mitigation measures and precaution for further
occurrence. The present study is mainly based on primary information with field observation.
This paper is an attempt to study about the problems and impact of landslides in Hlimen
Village Aizawl.

Title: The developmental scenario of heritage tourism in Sivasagar district, Assam- A study by using SWOT analysis.
Authors: Deka, Ghanashyam
Abstract: Assam, an area known for its rich historical and cultural significance. Sivasagar, once the
capital of the Ahom kingdom, is home to numerous heritage sites such as Rang Ghar, Talatal
Ghar, Sivasagar Tank, and the Sivadol Temple complex. Despite its historical prominence, the
tourism potential of the district remains underutilized. In the midway between inbound
tourism and outbound tourism, there are vast sub-branches of tourism like heritage tourism.
Heritage tourism plays a principal role in visiting historic places and having the grip to see
the glorious past. Sivasagar District of Assam is one of the notable areas regarding heritage
tourism. Which has several heritage tourism destinations. Distinctively it has to be mentioned
that the area has one world heritage site also, which is called Group of Four Maidam
(Charaideo). The present study has been carried out by adopting an exploratory research
method and a simple random sampling technique has been used for collecting the data from
the native people and tourists; Purposive sampling techniques have been adopted to select the
heritage sites. The researcher has visited the heritage sites and ATDC (Assam Tourism
Developmental Council) Sivasagar Circle to collect the necessary data. Proving the entire
data and information terminated with the proper statistical method applying a quantitively
driven mixed method approach (Quan +qual design) and through the digitized map with QGIS. The study shows the pros and cons of the study area and analyzes the data and
information by using SWOT Analysis. The concluding remark has carried a proper suggestive
measure to control the stumbling block of the study area

Management of natural resources through integrated watershed management in Nana Kosi micro watershed, district Almora, India

Title: Management of natural resources through integrated watershed management in Nana Kosi micro watershed, district Almora, India
Authors: Deka, Ghanashyam
Abstract: The watershed has been recognised as a unit for integrated resource management, where management is
not merely limited to land, water and biomass; but also concerned with integration for self-reliance and
holistic development of the rural population. The Uttarakhand Himalaya present an incomprehensible
mixed risk prone ecosystem largely due to land degradation, hydrological discrepancies, low productivity,
soil erosion and a pauperized subsistence economy. There is a need for sustainable strategy for redressal of
the pressing natural and socio-economic problems. In an operational context, this would mean integrating
different uses and management of resources through an inter-disciplinary approach, and towards alleviation
of poverty. Keeping in this, this study has been focused on the analysis and management of natural resources
through Integrated Watershed Management (IWM) in high altitude of Himalayan area of Nana Kosi river
watershed. The present paper assesses the prevailing conditions in the Nana Kosi micro watershed and
suggests strategies for the sustainable development.

MODE OF HUMAN INTERACTION AND ADJUSTMENT TO THE FOREST ENVIRONMENT: A Case Study in Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, Tinsukia, Assam

Title: MODE OF HUMAN INTERACTION AND ADJUSTMENT TO THE FOREST ENVIRONMENT: A Case Study in Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, Tinsukia, Assam
Authors: Deka, Ghanashyam
Abstract: Man has continually and at an alarming rate, being changing the forms and his interaction
with the environment. Man modifies nature and nature modifies man, yet it is the nature itself
which determines when and how man shall be so active. In other words natural powers are in every
instance dominant, the determinism is complete. Population of the earth is growing rapidly and
with the technological and scientific revolution developmental activities have been accelerated to
such an extent that in certain areas they have become threat to the environment. The present
paper is an attempt to study some important aspects of man-environment. Dibru-Saikhowa is one
of the famous National Parks, particularly for migratory birds, feral horses, wild buffalo, and white
winged duck. The entire park is located in a low laying active flood plain zone located between the
river Brahmaputra and river Dibru. Man-environment relationship concept of forest village and
man’s impact and adjustment to the forest and its results are studied in this paper. The habitat
area increases with the increase of population day by day, due to government’s transparent policy
to delimit the habitat area and also fro the conservation of the park. The mode of interaction and
adjustment of man to his environment is studied based on sample data and empirical observations.
