Title: A STUDY OF SELECTED LITERARY TRANSLATIONS: ENGLISH-MIZO Authors: Renthlei, Lalnunpuia Abstract: Literary translation is one of the major disciplines in academic field, and many scholars around the world pay their attention to translation studies from time to time. It is said that literary translation is as old as written language. Some historians have been able to trace it as far back as 3000 BC when Emperor Sargoan‟s proclamations were translated into all the languages spoken in the vast Assyrian empire (Nair 1). According to Encyclopedia Americana, fragmented versions of the old Sumerian Gilgamesh Epic have been found in four or five Asiatic languages of the 2nd millennium BC (12), which shows that the epic was translated into those languages. Nair wrote that the ideas expressed in the Egyptian language using the Egyptian scripts Hieroglyphic and Demotic were translated into Greek using the Grecian script (2).
